The town Humpolec is set right in the heart of Bohemian-Moravian Highlands (Ceskomoravska vrchovina), on the border between Bohemia and Moravia. The domain feature of the town is the church of St. Mikulas, located between the Horni square and the Dolni square. Below the church on the Horni square there is a museum with three permanent expositions- an anthropological exposition of the Czech famous anthropologist Dr. Ales Hrdicka, an exposition of the world-famous conductor and composer Gustav Mahler and an ethnical exposition, which introduces the life in the Humopec region. An important building is also the city hall on the Dolni square, the library now, built in 1872.
